Hurricane Melissa Hits Jamaica (10/28)
Hurricane Melissa was one of the strongest hurricanes in the Atlantic basin, packing maximum sustained winds at a staggering 185 MPH (near 300 KM per hour) and a central pressure of 892 MB (26.30")! The storm made landfall in Jamaica at this full intensity near New Hope during the late morning of October 28. The storm caused unimaginable devastation along the storm path across the island nation. I had plans to chase this hurricane, but canceled them since the aftermath would be dangerous and challenging. Out of a scant few of storm chasers, Josh Morgerman (iCyclone) was the closest to the storm near Crawford. Jamaica needs ANY HELP they can get.
